I’ve been comparing the 450X Gen 2, Gen 3, and the 2025 model (aka Gen 4) based on specs and forum discussions. From what I’ve seen and known

  • Gen 2: Snapdragon 212 with 1GB RAM/8GB storage, 2.9kWh battery—clearly limited for advanced features/OTAs due to hardware.
  • Gen 3: Same chip but 2GB RAM/16GB storage, 3.7kWh battery—should handle more, but users report unfulfilled promises like Cruise/Crawl from 2023 launches see this thread.

The 2025 updates (Magic Twist, traction control, better range/charging) are hyped as mostly software (Atherstack 6), with minor hardware like new tyres/charger. But forum evidence shows hardware barriers: Magic Twist needs a new throttle, traction requires a front sensor discussed here. Dashboard core seems identical to Gen 3, so why can’t Gen 3 get full OTAs for compatible features? Past OTAs improved range on older models, per users.

Many feel this is intentional to push 2025 sales—e.g., no retrofit options despite users offering to pay, leaving recent Gen 3 buyers “robbed” complaints in this thread. Ather denies it, blaming tech limits, but suspicions of planned obsolescence persist.

Ather team: Official stance on Gen 3 OTA roadmap? Will hardware upgrades be offered?

End of the day they will say it’s the controller which we cannot change or offer any hardware upgrade as it’s a electric instead of getting better with software update we get downgrade and disappointed because it’s clashes with the homologation of 2wevs

After the OTA, the display has become touchscreen and super slow. It takes 7-10 seconds to actually sync the speed. Turn indicators sound comes after 10 seconds when you have already turned and pressed again to off the indicator. App shows 100 km dashboard shows 90 km in eco mode. Navigation is not working. The scooter location is always my home even though I move 15 km away from home.

What is much needed is the option to go back to minimalist things on dashboard without performance issues

@hrishikesh.pradhan Why Geo fencing is not being provided for Pro pack users. When charging assets are being made common between Ather and Hero, why not the software functionalities being adapted?

@suyash.joshi1 Profile creation and customization is not still implemented. Myself and my wife use the same scooter. I use to ride with sport mode and my wife prefer to use eco mode. if we would have a profile in the menu or Ather can sync with our mobile and adapt to the profile when we start the scooter. These kind of features are not being given importance.

Can you give us some details on how the Voice Assistance feature is going to work? How does it work with the Halo helmets? Does it depend on the scooter’s network or does it use Bluetooth for facilitating the speech to instruction? How is this feature expected to work on my Gen 3.1 scooter? When is this expected to be rolled out?

Please add back watts consumed for 1 kilometer or estimated kilometres for 1 kw data along with trip data in dash it will be really helpful. And also enable option to toggle between current ride odo and trip data while riding scooter And also please add motor / battery temperature live data in dash

And also if possible please introduce custom theme support I’m bored of this wings of power theme tbh

We need to get a notification on the Ather mobile app once the software is downloaded on the scooter via OTA, instead of checking/restarting the scooter every single day which is extremely inconvenient OR alternatively provide the option to the user to download the new software on their scooter whenever they visit the scooter. I am still waiting for Atherstack 7 to be downloaded on my 450X Gen4 HR.

Is there any update or a citywise rollout plan on the new Ather charging grids with air filing functionality? Will the existing charging grids upgraded?

It will be helpful to have the network signal strength on the scooter shown in the Ather mobile app. e.g. Excellent, Very Good, Good, Poor, Very Poor.

How do we downgrade the software to AS6? Reason the maps lag a lot. It’s getting updated only after I pass the area. It’s difficult to take a turn by seeing the map.

Why don’t you introduce the new features as modules, something like a separate app in the scooter? If someone requires cricket score board, they go and choose the module from the mobile app and Install it in the vehicle. Same way for other features.

Adding additional features overload the cpu and makes it worse. I’m afraid how much it’s going to lag when you introduce voice assistant and other related alerts that requires processing on the go. So, if someone rellay want a feature they install it, else remove it from the scooter (not just disable).

  1. Who asked for cricket scores on dashboard?

I’ve a feeling that this might go unanswered.

Oh noo let me check the cricket scores and not the live efficiency of my Ather

I believe the audience for this is 50/50

One more question why was the trip based efficiency display removed ? It was so easy to just see it on the dash not like we had to open up add to see those details !

Right, this and replacing wh/km with km/unit.

That happens when company transitions from being a startup who actually solves problems and think about customers to mass market where they need to show good numbers just to stay in the competition.

But we know what’s their answer is gonna be.

P.S. They could provide access to the scooter data to those who want.

Hey folks. We’ve received some wonderful questions and will be replying to them over the next few hours. Some of them are pretty straightforward, while some would require a lot more nuance and detailed explanation which may not always be possible through text. If you’ve got follow ups, additional doubts or want to know more about a particular answer, please feel free to post later. Whatever we don’t get to today, we’ll close off by tomorrow.

6kW charging speeds will be available on scooters that roll out only after these chargers are installed. Existing scooters already on road don’t have the capability to support that kind of charging speed. You can still use the faster Grid chargers, but the speed will be capped to what your scooter can handle - same for 2.9 and 3.7 battery packs.
