I’ve been comparing the 450X Gen 2, Gen 3, and the 2025 model (aka Gen 4) based on specs and forum discussions. From what I’ve seen and known
- Gen 2: Snapdragon 212 with 1GB RAM/8GB storage, 2.9kWh battery—clearly limited for advanced features/OTAs due to hardware.
- Gen 3: Same chip but 2GB RAM/16GB storage, 3.7kWh battery—should handle more, but users report unfulfilled promises like Cruise/Crawl from 2023 launches see this thread.
The 2025 updates (Magic Twist, traction control, better range/charging) are hyped as mostly software (Atherstack 6), with minor hardware like new tyres/charger. But forum evidence shows hardware barriers: Magic Twist needs a new throttle, traction requires a front sensor discussed here. Dashboard core seems identical to Gen 3, so why can’t Gen 3 get full OTAs for compatible features? Past OTAs improved range on older models, per users.
Many feel this is intentional to push 2025 sales—e.g., no retrofit options despite users offering to pay, leaving recent Gen 3 buyers “robbed” complaints in this thread. Ather denies it, blaming tech limits, but suspicions of planned obsolescence persist.
Ather team: Official stance on Gen 3 OTA roadmap? Will hardware upgrades be offered?
End of the day they will say it’s the controller which we cannot change or offer any hardware upgrade as it’s a electric instead of getting better with software update we get downgrade and disappointed because it’s clashes with the homologation of 2wevs
