Battery life cycle … Did anyone know about battery life cycle how many Cycles in ather battery

In Standby mode batteries dichage. For example i had charged till 100% at 8pm in the evening but by morning 7am when i saw it was 97%

Can we add additional battery in the boot space?

Should we let the charger plugged in even after it is charged till 100%?

… in the sense you have nothing to do with a battery in the boot. You need a UPS and carry the portable charger to charge the scooter. It does not add much to the range, given the e/m ratios and efficiencies. Maybe it can be designed onto a new scooter, where the footboard battery is supplemented by a boot battery.

There is a lot of discussion on idle battery drain, but this sums most of it…

Well… can a UPS hold that much electricity in it to charge the Ather? If yes then what type of UPS has that much capacity to charge the Ather?

Any UPS which can provide 2 kva for at least 6 hr will do. Usually, Sukam or any brand you like which runs on a 48v system should do the trick, this will ensure you have a lot of charge before draining empty.

I didn’t understand use of UPS here, does it mean that you want to use UPS to charge Ather in absence of mains electricity ?

Yes, With Summer approaching and I live in an area where there are more frequent power cuts, It’s better to have a backup with something that won’t let the scooter sit like a dead thing.

Then infact all Ather grids must be installed with a backup either battery or generator

I charged the 450x using my portable charger last night till 100% SOC. When I started the scooty in morning, I see the SOC has dropped to 97%. Is there any valid reason why this could happen ? Is it a problem which can be solved?

It’s not a problem, its normal in every scooter. The battery degrades little bit in idle condition.

So, very interestingly, the range on my 450X has deviated from the standard E 85 and so on. The predicted values (on top of the recent ride screen) is supposed to showcase true ranges right? It no longer shows 85km on Eco even at 100% SoC. Could this be because of battery degradation or the values based on the riding styles?

No, it’s based on your riding style for the last ~1000 kms. The predicted range values wont change based on your current SoC. It just shows the range you can expect in different modes on a full charge, based on your recent riding style in that mode. The true range is only shown on the dashboard.

But it will take into account battery degradation when it happens in a few years right?

For my Series 1 450X, the official battery capacity is as below. Installed capacity: 2.9 kWh Usable capacity: 2.61 kWh

Today I thought to test the battery degradation with two continuous rides after charging to 100%. Will add screenshots from the Ather app at the bottom for reference.

Ride 1 Distance - 36.4 km Efficiency - 41 Wh/km

Ride 2 Distance - 7.3 km Efficiency - 37 Wh/km

The average efficiency for the total ride of 43.7 km is ~ 40.3 Wh/km

The total battery energy consumed for 43.7 km is ~ 1.76 kWh

Elevation is negligible in this test and weather is around 28 degrees Celsius.

Battery percentage came to 1% after the above two rides. Since the battery degradation of my Series 1 is above 70%, will go for the claim. :slight_smile:

Luckily, I didn’t believe in @tarun words and bought the extended battery warranty (EBW). Since my scooter is more than 3 years old, I would have been doomed without the EBW.

Badges related to warp mode in the above screenshot are wrong (could be a bug). I never rode in warp mode today.

How did you conclude that the battery degradation is below 70%?

Was the battery drained to 0% after completing those two rides? In that case it is 1.76/2.9=61%?

Forgot to mention, battery percentage came to 1% after those two rides.

Hello guys, I’m facing this new issue where the battery charges much more in certain amount of time than normal.

Mine is a 2nd gen Ather, it used to charge 1% for 2.5 min all these years. now its charging around 15% in 26 mins instead of around 10% as seen in the first set of images. around 42% in 1hr, 32mins instead of around ~37% as seen in the second set of images.

and yes,

  1. I have fully charged the battery overnight for many days so that the cells could be balanced.
  2. I have done a full cycle i.e from 0 to a 100 and to a 0% again.

The issue seems to come up again and again. The service centre guy doesn’t even understand the problem, he says the battery health is fine and the balance is also fine. However, I’ve never trusted the service centre since I’ve faced multiple issues with them numerous times.

example: once the back wheel alignment was so bad that i could fell the breaks pulsing periodically, I had to pinpoint the problem, they never understood the reason.

I still have numerous mechanical issues unresolved. I have not had enough time to check it myself or deal with the pesty service guys who never seem to understand the issue.

Objective of this post

  • Is just to know if such charging patterns are common as the battery ages? old owners please let me know.

My vehicle has done ~30,000kms and is 4 years old.
