The RTO guys are correct. They’ll not register a vehicle that’s not listed in their state. If the former Andhra Pradesh wasn’t split into two, you wouldn’t have faced this problem. But one solution that I can think of is if you have a Telangana address, try to register it in Telangana. There should not be a problem in Telangana as Ather is in Hyderabad (or will be there soon). Also I assume Police may not harass TS vehicles like they would do for any other state. At a later date in future when Ather comes to Andhra Pradesh, you can transfer it and get an AP registration. This is complicated for sure but this is the only solution I can think of right now for your situation.

If that is the case , NOC certificate has to be taken if registered in telangana, which is also not accepted in andhra pradesh because even a noc certified vehicle should be also listed in the current state’s Rto list.

I spotted an Ather 450 near Nalanda Convent, Tumkur. Would be very helpful to know on how they got it to Tumkur and challenges (if any ) they faced if they are using it permanently here. If the owner is on the community can you please share your experience?

Tumakuru should actually be quite easy considering where all the Ather 450 has been taken. Here’s one detailed report of an experience of getting the 450 registered in Shivamogga

Coming to registration, it was a very bitter experience. Since ours was the first electric scooter to be registered in Shivamogga, I had to fight with the RTO people to get it registered. I have visited the RTO continuously for a week, leaving all my work only to wait there and fight. Before buying the scooter, I had enquired with the local RTO regarding the registration. They ensured me that they will follow the same procedure as followed in Bengaluru. But later it was a complete U turn. Even though, all electric two wheeler are exempted from road tax, they were forcing me to pay tax at 4% of the vehicle value, which would be around Rs 5000. I even showed them the notification about the tax exemption being put up on the RTO Karnataka website and the Karnataka Electric Vehicle Policy.

I tried to convince them that the vehicle is exempted from tax in Bengaluru itself. Yet, they would not agree. Especially, the accounts superintend, Mr. Bhosle acted as the main villain . He was very rude and arrogant with us. He treated us as if we are desperately trying to evade tax. I repeatedly told him I did not have any problem with paying the tax, but my argument was why should I when the legislation clearly exempts it? They themselves were not updated. Upon that they would blame me for producing outdated documents. They said that the government has amended the bill and the new rule is to collect 4% tax. We were so fed up with them, that we even thought of approaching the local news paper to publicise the harassment done by the RTO officials. The other option for us was to bring it to Bengaluru, get it registered and take it back. Again, all this was frustrating. Fortunately, there was one officer, who was very friendly. He understood our problem and assured that he would help us. He contacted the Indranagara RTO, enquired about the procedure to register an electric vehicle. With his help, finally we got it registered. Mr.Bhosle was still reluctant to carry on with the registeration process. He reluctantly signed it, stating that one day we would be caught by the police for not paying the tax and that we had to face the consequence. Since the job was done, I did not care much about him and his words. After a month, I visited the RTO and found out that Mr.Bhosle was transferred else where. Probably, he was posted in Shivamogga only to trouble us.

In the mean time, I had given many demos about the Ather to the curious people in and around the RTO . I had become quite famous among the RTO agents as “BATTERY GAADI AVARU” meaning the BATTERY VEHICLE FELLOW . Once I had gone to a furniture shop. I was shocked when the owner there suddenly asked me whether the RTO people registered my electric scooter. Upon asking how did he come to know about that, he told that he had seen me arguing with the RTO officials, when he had come there on some work.

Now in ather site, Upcoming cities are not showing. Whether Ather dropped the idea to expand in other cities like bhuvaneshwar, Trivandrum etc etc ?

What will be the probable time to launch Ather 450X in Kolhapur (416101) ? What if I pre-order using Pune Address and bring at my location (416101) ? Whether Servicing will be available for such incidents?

servicing would be available but you have to take the ather to Pune to get servicing done

200+ km from Kolhapur to Pune is a risk. There are people who have take. It farther from serviceable location, but it is all on your side.

We would be unable to provide services such as roadside assistance, charging cost reimbursement and won’t be able to assure the usability of features such as onboard navigation, if your vehicle beyond our reach. Even when your vehicle is covered under one of our subscription plans.

I don’t think ather needs a big service , all that it needs is brake oil(dot4,dot3) and brake shoes ans tyres which can be purchased anywhere,i am bringing ather to vizag from chennai,more than 600kms,200kms is not a big deal

I had booked 450X with Tumkur address and had hoped all delivery precedence will be based on order number irrespective of Billing Address. But later found out there’s a queue for each city and Tumkur is not in upcoming cities. So updated my Billing Address to Bangalore Address so that I end up in Bangalore queue. Take temp registration and register permanently at Tumkur RTO.
