What a rubbish Idea 1 rupees/min + GST means takes almost 80-90 rupees for 80% and also paid money to parking lot 10-20 rupees means 100 rupees for 80% and waiting time is separate so whats a different between normal ICE engine bike , if you want to add paid subscription for 80% charging set 20 rupees per charge it’s affordable and convince to all else no one buy your Bike at this rate
I understand that the motive for charging customers based on time is to avoid crowding but a few things to note are:
- 1rs/minute is too expensive even for fast charging. A price this heavy will definitely demotivate customers from using the charging grid at as much as possible which will reduce profits if any derived from these grid points. It would be more reasonable to charge a reasonable price to attract customers enough that they don’t feel like Ather is trying to burn a hole in their pockets especially considering the premium price of the vehicle itself. We don’t expect Ather to provide the charging for free but atleast as for a fair price.
- The problem with varying charging times is very serious in this time based approach. I think the viable solution is to charge unit price for top up upto 80% and when the charging is complete adding a penalty of 1rs per min or any price that is deemed reasonable to stop people hoarding chargers. This can be managed through the app i think, if not possible to be managed by the charger itself. As for the concern of varying prices in different states, i think charging 1.5 times the price in the state seems like the best option for both the customers and the company’s trust. But if that’s too much of a hastle then a reasonalbe average price would be acceptable. If just average price is not considered the right indicator then Ather can opt for weighted average pricing, Ather must have all the data about how much electricity is used at each grid point so it’s not a hard thing to do. Appreciate the company for taking steps to help the customers in the regard of crowding. I doubt the objective of this move was to fill their pockets and was rather to help the customers with the crowding issue. But this pricing system has charged the innocent customers too heavily as well. So I hope the brand looks into it.
I support this. Price also seems good, ₹1/min is fine. People calculating running costs using this, YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO CHARGE AND RUN EVERYDAY USING THE Ather GRID. It is only meant for TOP UPS and reducing range anxiety when travelling long distances. Imagine the money Ather has already lost running these chargers for free since the past few years. Lakhs on the chargers themselves, + electricity bill + rent for the space + Maintenance + what not.
Yes, I don’t understand people complaining here. I never felt the need of using the grid. Do people use these fast chargers daily? That could harm the battery health in long run. EVs are supposed to be charged at home. And public chargers are for top-ups in long distance travels.
Many people are saying that it will cost them ₹100 daily, if you need to top-up 80% after you left the house on full battery on daily basis then you clearly chose the wrong vehicle. They are public chargers, meant to be used by all who needs it, charging on the basis of time is the correct way to solve the crowding issue.
They will make us regret for buying Ather… I have not used public charging even once but i can feel the pain of someone in need of a quick 20 to 30% Charge and paying 30 to 40₹ for it… They could have rather dumped half litre petrol for it and that could have given 20KM mileage… What’s the difference then Ather?? ![]()
I too only use it to top-up but I’m also expecting it to charge as fast. Hence the time based model falls short when addressing issues faced to consumer due to a bug in the system or effects of the surrounding.
This will only encourage other grid players to increase their prices. Very poorly brainstormed idea. I used Ather grid only twice. Still, this decision will discourage the potential buyer. Ather is costliest and provide less range on full charge. I bought Ather two months back only because its one of the oldest brands in India. I drive Ather 80 km a day. Three days a week. I charge at third party grid in my housing complex. It costs me 16/- per hour. Still you guys are costlier.
Contrary to popular opinion I appreciate this move, I see instead of using grid as on go charging solution to deal with range anxiety people have started using it as their only charging solution not charging at all in home. Most of points are occupied in evening . I am not confident that I will gat a point available if I plan a longer trip. There is a silver lining to this….
If you are charging only once or twice, then that price makes 0 difference. There is no point in comparing it to petrol if you’re only going to use it twice a month. You spend ₹200 on Pizza toh might as well spend ₹100 for a quick top-up!
It’s not good that you are announcing this.Atleast new vehicles brought this year should have one year from the date of purchase.and nominal fare for first three years
It goes in both ways. Ather should promise full 0-80 in 50 mins then .
Grids have been super unreliable, some charge the scooter very quickly some are terribly slow. That’s why charging per unit makes Ather accountable as well.
While beta testing we have seen 0-80 taking more than 90mins. In such cases consumer gets penalised for no mistake of him/her.
Yea that’s what i said 66% to 80% took 1hour
How u people can differentiate between old users and new buyers?
If anything new rolls out as an announcement from the organisation/company that should be applicable for all the users.
Anyways luckily
Karnataka government as of now announced FREE ELECTRICITY for all residents hence no tension as of now. ![]()
‘’ Nominal fee ₹ 1/min +gst." What a serious joke by Ather.
now this is some good news, the grid was meant for quick boost till your destination, and people were misusing it to fully charge up-to 80%, i have seen lot of instances were some owners who were charging to full didn’t allow people who just need a quick 6% boost to reach home. in one instance where a guy who came in Ather from bangalore to mysore (he ran out of charge just 50 meters from the charging grid) ,he said just need a quick boost of 5% so that he can get home , but this owner was like just 5 mins let me get to 80%…absolute nonsense,
EDIT 1 : but Ather could have also come up with something like first 15% is free if your SOC is under 7% if you want to continue the charging after that 15% you have to pay, or depending upon the SOC of the vehicle the free charging % percentage can be allotted pro-rata basis.
Really disappointed because I recently bought Ather 3rd gen 10days back, dint expect Ather team to take such a quick decision. They should come up with solution for the buyers who bought EV’S in 2022 and 2023. They should get an equal opportunity like owners who got there bikes in 2018 and so on. And we paid 1.75lakhs for this announcement? Are you kidding me Ather team lol.
I expect Ather team to provide solution for recent owners. We dint even get a chance like others. ![]()
Ather could have come forward with this pricing directly but trying to make people believe the reason it to reduce crowding doesn’t make sense🙃. We are humans we understand, we talk, we share. when someone is in dire need of charging we do let the other use port first. This way we are nurturing our humanity. I don’t think Ather should have or needed to come forward to solve the issue. We are already doing it.
Coming to the pricing I would have paid more than petrol cost if it recharged the batteries in few minutes. Anyways I should stop promoting Ather to people🤣 from now on .I don’t see a point in spending big money and losing peace.
One more point people are using Ather for food and grocery delivery as a mode of livelihood if they need charge and travel way lot in a day. If this is the case they need to earn money to just pay this charge fee.
₹1/min+GST is very high you loos your company
Hello Abhi,
I see your point of view but, i just brought my Ather 450X with pro pack a few months ago and I totally agreed to pay pro pack amount, considering the benefits i get which had grid charging for free as promised by your team earlier. Now i see a notification saying its chargeable which really did disappoint me for the extra money i have paid for and also let me just make it clear for you, am the one who don’t always use the grid, i use them occasionally hardly charged 3 times in last 4-5 months. But my point is why don’t you make a certain number of kWh free for a every 30 days or so which would benefit you with no sales drop and us with limited charging usage for free.
Hoping you would consider this seriously and come up with decision which would not lead to any disappointment or disagreement.
Also looking forward for speedy response.
Not supporting this. There should be fair costing. For long run Ather should gain trust of customers.
Thats how other foriegn competitors establish their business successfully in india.
