User end isn’t supposed to bother about infra of the vendor ,it has to be cost effective and nothing more ,it’s the brand who has to worry about infra /logistics and whatsoever.
Again we aren’t against paying the premium for infra setup or anything. We are against the uncertainty min based charging brings.
If Ather brings up 1 rupees/1km most will be okay. Because in this way I have clarity how much I am getting billed rather than leaving it in the mercy of grid. (as some charge extremely quick and some are very slow) .
Also getting billed on the basis of km or unit makes the service provider in this case Ather accountable for faster and efficient charging. But in min based billing user gets billed extra for a factor that’s beyond his control.
Sorry, 90% complaints are about being paid
Different versions of posts:
- 1 - Leave it free
- 2 - I was assured free charging for 1 more year
- 3 - Leave it free for first X minutes
- 4 - Give it free for customers who bought recently for 1 more year
- 5 - Increase grid if u want to avoid crowding.
- 6 - Company cheating because they dont have money to refund charger
- 7 - Company want to make money on everything after buying expensive vehicle
- 8 - Make it cheaper 50p / min
- 9 - Company should do bottom-down approach and give what customers want
Sadly, Only few genuine posts are about ensuring fair pricing for the charge.
Well, to be honest, Ather is equally faulty in this too. They didn’t ask the community’s response before taking such steps. It is bound to happen. During sales, a lot of them were promised free charging.
During beta testing, I brought up charging based on units consumed or km. They just ignored it.
I have a feeling most people are shouting at a deaf wall here. The management is not gonna listen at all.
Ather never promised Grid will be free. Even from the initial period, subscription plans were there (given for free for a limited period).
If at all, it was given as a part of promotion for limited period. Those promises will be honoured anyway, for people who bought during that period.
Ather extended the free period every few months. It’s only a matter of time before Ather is going to charge, not if.
How can it be a surprise that Ather suddenly charged for Grid?
I am sure these people were so optimistic they would have even assumed the below ![]()
- get Uber / Ola trip almost free like 6 years back
- get Jio for free for life
- get Amazon Prime for 499
- Get Unbelievable offers every Big Billion Day
Pretty sure they do listen/read everything that goes on here. The decisions made might have come from a different understanding of the usage of grids. If anything we know of Ather, is the fact that they do listen and consider the views of the community members. Hopefully, they’ll have enough usage information to change/rectify the charges after use.
I agree. There is a uncertainty of charging on time based top up. But let this role out, and let them have some data before they can make the necessary changes.
PS I saw a scooter which did not have account balance and was refused to get charged by the grid. And got unlocked automatically. So grid users keep in mind there should be minimal balance in account at all times.
I choose the wrong wording. A lot of people were miss-sold by the “sales team” in the EC. You might not accept it, but it is more common than you realize.
Again I am not against the grid being paid. I am against the way it is implemented right now.
Been here for a few months and have the very opposite experience. Hopefully, they are listening to it.
Guys game is simple ,
Ather wants to restrict vehicles under warranty from charging frequently which will damage the battery and they have to bear the expense of replacing/ repairing it .
Once your vehicle/battery runs out of warranty (like gen 1 and gen 1.5 ) they will let you grid charge for free . So you can damage the battery soon bear the hefty price of replacing it or buying new Ather altogether.
Peace
Quite the conspiracy theory! Why then was Grid Charging free for all these years? The first 450 was delivered in Sept2018!
I don’t remember the Grid or the scooter ever being marketed in this way. Also there are other solutions for charging using a portable charger other than at offices and homes which are way better for battery SoH and lot cheaper as they don’t have to factor in the fast charging setup and the running cost in maintaining it, than a normal 15A socket with a QR code.
Hello everyone to put it in simple words gen 3.1 takes approx 1 hour 45 mins for 0% to 80% if all conditions are favourable. So its 3 units of power in 105 mins and 125 ruppee bill, so each unit is 41₹. So if they mention ₹41 per kW there will be even more complaints for exorbitant pricing because for 120kW charger also max is ₹25 per unit. So to confuse they have priced per minute basis but problem is temparature and grid performance will decide the time taken to recharge so it’s not same all the time.
Instead of being greedy atleast they could have priced ₹1 per minute including GST and intro offer 50% off for few months for people to get accustomed.
Also they need to follow consistency with GST. Old subscription packs were excluding GST now basic Ather assure is 999 + gst and new connect plan is 1999 including GST and accessories are including GST but charger installation price is excluding GST etc whenever convenient they mention excluding GST pricing so people think it’s less like pricing ending at 9 psychological trick
actually unit price would be a solution. only in the past few weeks Ather made some changes to the fast charging system. last i charged to 80% few weeks back, it used to charge from 20% to 80% within 40 minutes approx. and last time i sat there from 25% , took 30 minutes and it wasnt even 65% . and the guy who stood before me, he had 77% and I was waiting and waiting, it took almost 20 minutes and it wasnt still 80% I had to ask him to remove his charger so others can use it. in effect, the speed at which the device charges has been drastically reduced. this feels very bad. if they charge us by kWH and we charge it in 30-40 minutes, then there is no additional overheads for waiting 1.5 hours to charge the bike to 80%
As i mentioned in another thread, if Ather want us to pay per minute then it should be a different slab for 05-50% , 50-70% and 70-80% and 80-95%
also, they should enable 100% charging. afterall, if I am going to pay for fast charging, then why the capping at 80%? they can charge 1 rupee for 80% above and keep other percentages lower.
afterall Ather is supposed to be powered by AI and they have deployed all the updates so far via OTA software updates, this also is 100% possible. its upto them to decide what they are going to offer the customers. doesnt like feedback in this forum is making any impact.
So that’s why they are charging per minute, so next time you don’t have to ask him to remove the charger.![]()
Conspiracy or common sense? ![]()
wooo, who let the inside trading out?
But looks like these are pretty factual. But no, Gen 1 and Gen 1.5 are getting everything for free is because we gave them the boost of letting everyone know about the company.
PS maybe out of the guilt that they won’t be able to upgrade us to 450x as Fame2 subside is dropped by 1/2.
I agree with you sir, and also most of the charging points in chennai with parking charges so we have to pay for parking as well as Ather . It around to 90 to 100rs , what is the use of getting electric rather petrol bikes…
If pricing is not controlled by Ather than by what logic ₹1 per min? And why other venders are having lesser charges?
My point is with Ather we are stuck with their charging options only and they are monopolising for their benefit.
Grids are emergency but not always the case. In my apparent we are not left with choice but use their grid for all purposes. And I see lot of such scenario across Bangalore specially in apartment complex where personal charging is not possible due to stupid complex rules.
So, the per unit rate is decided after considering all the expenses say, a fast car charger has a price of approx 20-25₹/kwh they get electricity at 8-10/ kwh rest is for their cost of charger and maintenance. Same should be done by Ather.
