I find it useful at least a sense of early adopter and how we contribute. Should definitely keep the version which include ather labs @abhishek.balaji

With my calculation, they have taken an ICE 2W with a mileage of 50km/L for savings calculator

Precisely the reason for feature to allow user to enter details. Cost with petrol is dependent on location (difference of more than 5% between Delhi and Mumbai), the alternative cost with electricity can also vary (differs from ā‚¹7/unit in Mumbai to potentially ā‚¹0.5/unit for places that run solar energy).

In Kerala, the prices for domestic users range from about 3 rupees to 7 rupeea. Comercial user even pay more than 15 rupees per unit.( Without considering solar)

Iā€™m about to say, they have calculated as 2rs per km for ice engineā€¦

@abhishek.balaji hey ather team ! savings tracker is stuck and not calculating weekly savings anymore , where as overall savings is calculating fine ā€¦ But weekly doesnt seem to work ā€¦

I really like this feature. Itā€™s certainly of help to track the Statistics and also help people switch to EV helping in a comparison. Definitely going to upvote this! What could be done is city wise petrol prices or a simple calculator stuff can be done where a person can enter the details and the system will calculate all the details. Could be helpful in custom period tracking.

Is it feasible to install MOVE or NAVIC from Map my India instead Google??? Estimated time charging on dashboard similar estimate kilometres while chargingā€¦

Just curious. Will Trip planner be build into the navigation in the dashboard or just in the app? If in the app, although useful it wonā€™t be so much convenient to use. May be, it lets us push the planned route to the bike with the charging stops. Kinda interesting to see how that comes along. Next should be SMART charging.

Can we have something like ā€œshare your tripā€ feature like in bicycle apps?

A few (maybe 3) of the previous trips will be available with routemap, intermediate charging points, uphill/downhill, etc that can be flaunted.

Eg:

Doable, right?

savings trackers should have filters and graphs to show what we have saved monthly/yearly/quaterly/custom filter. Also i am unable to assume at what rate of electricity has the calculator taken as default. There should also be option to put electricity price per unit.

@tarun Would be great if this statement is really going to take its shape in near future (I mean real near future not from Atherā€™s dictionaryšŸ˜€).

Because right now I only see ā€œ-veā€ value for money in softwate subscription front.

As a product for hardware I am always satisfied for what Ather has built (no probs for me with range). But in software perspective it is a night mare. To keep it relevant here to topic Ather labs for me looks like just the feature request topic mainstreamed thatā€™s it. Because your own staff when asked about trip planner feature said that there is no time frame and if that gets more interests then it will be looked into, but how ever trip planner is a very good feature rather than just a standard calcutaed savings tracker. One can just say that gains much interest blindly without any wait for input.

Giving such statement is not showing any seriousness or commitment in your(Atherā€™s) intents. A statement saying it is under works and cannot provide a time frame for now is different ball game but saying if we get enough or more interests then we work on it is a open end statement (savings tracker might be encouraging to gain new customers but not for a regular EV user), no negatives for having that feature though.

I mean genuinely if you donā€™t have to apppeal to customers what does your inner feeling say @tarun , are you really happy with your software development and testing teams. Need not answer to this question if you donā€™t want but ask to yourself as a leader of the company.

Hey @abhishek.balaji @tarun There is a terrible issue to ather app since beginning and its not yet solvedā€¦ When reading forum on ather app

  1. There is no back button to go to earlier screen or topic
  2. Even if phone goes to landscape mode when tilted it goes to main page againā€¦ This is very frustratingā€¦

When can we see the issue resolved ?

If your on ios - swipe from left to right (from extreme left, midway of the screen) to navigate back.

TLDR version: we need to work a lot more on the product but the tech is getting better. Trip planner is there because we are already planning it out.

Long version (read only if you are interested in the inner workings at Ather and donā€™t take this as a defence of anything): I think we are quite some distance away from having product market fit for the SW suite as a whole. Qualityā€™s actually come a long way in the last 6 months but the actual fit of features for owners needs a lot more work. We are quite aware of it.

We have struggled with a fairly anaemic team in the past, partly a mistake of:

  1. us poorly estimating how much work a stable release will take (esp when the team is operating with constraints on HW, tech restrictions from partners)
  2. us pausing/slowing hiring down during most of 2020 and it hitting the team hard because that was the EXACT moment when they needed to ramp-up massively

This, along with the fact that we started charging for Ather Connect, at the same time, has made some issues worse than they should have been. This should have been only a product mgmt issue but became a tech issue.

Writing this because you asked if I am happy with the ā€˜teamsā€™. We have a LOT of work to do with the product and a fair bit on stabilizing the platforms. We have some distance to go in ramping up the teams and allowing them the bandwidth to properly focus. But, honestly, I am quite proud of what the actual folks have been able to deliver despite a lot of challenges.

Every single engg team at Ather went through this phase. There was a time when the power electronics seemed like a villian when the mechanicals seemed ready and HW had come later, because the teams were formed later. Later, the embedded teams faced the same struggles, then the transmission, then the bodyworks so on and on. Every single time, as a team gets formed and as a company we start learning that what kind of a talent, caliber and #s we need thereā€™s some learning curve. Luckily, most teams went through that phase before the product was actually launched. I think at some level, given our own backgrounds we were more focused on the HW all these years. While connectivity based ecosystem was something we were excited about, we ended up giving it limited actual attention and most work was focused toward ensuring that it somehow ā€˜workedā€™ at a proto scale of 500-1000 customers total.

Unfortunately, the web tech teams are going through this growing up journey at Ather at a time when we already have thousands of customers across 20 cities and are growing super fast. It might seem funny but until early this year we did not even allocate a full time product manager for the SW features (kill me now) because we thought that it all somehow worked during the days of 450 and so should be fine.

We have come a long way in the last 6 months. Quality has swung a few times but is much much better now, thereā€™s a better understanding of how the owners are, a better roadmap is starting to emerge, the stack is looking better and better to scale to scales of a few lakh now and the teams are able to breathe.

On the specific topic of Trip Planner - Ather Labs started with a standard statement (we will launch it, if thereā€™s interest) because itā€™s intended to be the DNA of Labs. Trip Planner otherwise has a fair bit of traction already and thereā€™s work already happening.

Cheers! Tarun

Hey Tarun! Thank you for opening up and sharing the ups and downs. It is good to know that the worst is behind and the best is coming.

That said, the magic of software and open source is very helpful, especially with Android running on the 450X as well as with the app (ok iOS too, but trying to achieve the same). At least a handful of the users are good with some language or the other, and associate with Ather Labs if there is an API. Not on critical items, but ideas similar to savings tracker etc can be done, while the SW team focuses on critical items and parts that cannot be disclosed.

What say, sir?
