Ownership Experience

I work in Global Technology Park. Ecospace or Central could be an ideal location.

Central Entry/Exit is a mess - Ecospace, Cessna Business Park and there are others on ORR. I think we need a couple on ORR for sure

I think this is the Ather wrong thread.
Move it to missed connections

I work in Tesco Whitefield, but my registration number is different.

Could someone tell me whatā€™s the ideal discharge rate of the battery when the vehicle is kept idle? My vehicle was idle for 2 days( not shut-down) and there was a reduction of ~10km in range and 10% in the battery. Is this normal? @Shreyas @Ather.Team

Hi Kashyap,
Ideal discharge rate is 8 % for 24 hours. What you have seen is normal which we all experience.

Average discharge of 2kms during a 8-10hr period. So what you see is normal.

Last Friday evening I shutdown the bike since I was travelling for 4 days. Shutdown with 44kms and restarted on Wednesday morning with a loss of just 1km! If you are away for more than 24hrs, it makes sense to shutdown the bike.

Somewhat of an overlap here. I work in ecospace and stay near tesco so more grids for me please

I have had the same experience. You just need to shutdown and restart your vehicle once every day then you will face this problem lesser. Still sometimes it happens.

Is that 1 km loss in 3 days with shutdown? Thats impressiveā€¦

I started shutting down during office hours and overnight, without waiting for ride statisticsā€¦ Because, waiting for 7-10 mins becomes impractical every dayā€¦

I hope in the future OTA, @Ather.Team fixes it by syncing unsynced data after turning ON.

Off late, I see need for restarts frequently. In last 10 days, at least 4-5 times

Yesterday, I did not shutdown. But, when I started the vehicle, screen did not turn ON. So, restarted it. Again, within 1 km the screen froze with 22km/h. So, restarted againā€¦ After few kms, again screen frozenā€¦ But, it came after some timeā€¦

What I see is that in my parking area there is no network. So when I put it on charge the pod keeps blinking whole night. is it not supposed to be cut off once the vehicle is fully charged and the pod supposed to stop blinking?

The pod will switch to trickle charging once battery is almost full. BMS will take care of battery charge and discharge rates, so donā€™t need to worry about it being plugged in for too long

If you still are worried, you could get a timer switch wired into the charging cable between your Meter box and pod so that you can program it to shutoff power after a certain duration.

The only problem I see with that approach is if you have frequent power cuts or unstable voltage, the pod will shut off power and the bike may not be actually charged long enough before your timer cuts off main power. Iā€™ve been having this trouble last 1 week due to fluctuation in BESCOM supply and had to disable my timer settings on the WiFi switch.

I noticed the same - even after fully charged, the Pod keeps blinking. No network in our B2 where I park.

Hi Guys , does anyone know where i can get PPF done for my flight in and around
JP Ngar and Jayanagar.

Hey thanks a ton

@raghav.srinivasan @Raghunandan thanks for your response.

This is my observation-
July 1st 10pm

July 2nd around 4.30pm

July 3rd around 4.30pm

Like you said thereā€™s a reduction of ~8% in the battery percentage and ~8km in range.
Best option is to shut-down the vehicle.

30-day review

I took delivery of my 450 on the day of the mass delivery event on 02-Jun. was very excited to finally lay my hands on the exquisitely designed price of art. It was of course amplified by the wait of almost an year.

Continuing on from my test drive experience, the ride back home was nothing short of exhilarating. With my son sitting behind me, the ride from IBC to BAnashankari 3rd stage truly brought out characteristics that define The 450 - the fantastic acceleration, the perfect balance the scooter had, the more than adequate stopping power and the smooth ride of an electric bike.

The points that stand out in favor of The 450 are

  • [ ] superb design - stunning looks and a definite head turner. Attracts lot of attention on the road from fellow motorists. Very smooth lines and looks very sporty. Even when it is standing it appears to do 80 Kmph
  • [ ] superb performance both in the ride mode as well as sport. While the acceleration is quick, the scooter brings beautiful balance and poise to an otherwise dull scooter segment. It has been fun seeing more powerful scooters and bikes fade away in the rear view mirror.
  • [ ] excellent brakes although the rear locks up on hard braking sometimes
  • [ ] While the range can always be more , one can get a predictable range once they have learned to drive with a restrained right hand.
  • [ ] made in India - very proud that we have an indigenously designed and manufactured product.
  • [ ] The connected app is a definite plus although the wish list for features is quite long.

While my experience calling in for customer support has been very good, there are a lot of issues with the scooter. These may not be big issues but they are consistent across the owners as reported on the forum.

  • [ ] Grinding noise from the front while accelerating. While Ather claims that this is normal , it is quite disconcerting to the rider. Hopefully this should go away after the first service
  • [ ] Display issues - no display while riding, no display in poor connection areas, display going blank when a location is sent to the scooter from the app and the connection is poor etc create a sense of anxiety and mar the experience.
  • [ ] The solution to many problems suggested is to restart. This is like going back to the days of early Windows. Definitely not acceptable.
  • [ ] solenoid lock getting stuck.
  • [ ] Noise from rear seat while going over potholes , rough roads and speed breakers is annoying.
  • [ ] The front shock absorbers make noise while going over bad patches and the front is a bit jumpy even on smooth roads. The jumpy front is observed on hard acceleration and this can be quite annoying.
  • [ ] squeak from the front when the vehicle is stationary and the handle is turned left or right
  • [ ] Whirring noise from the rear brakes.
  • [ ] grinding noise from the motor/front while reversing.
  • [ ] I have read about unresponsive motor or the motor turning off while the scooter is in motion being reported on the forum and this is very dangerous.
  • [ ] issues with charging pod and itā€™s demand for perfect electrical inputs
  • [ ] inconsistent OTA updates. Especially the ride statistics not syncing for days! Also related to the poor choice of an obsolete technology in 3G and a bad service provider.

The shortcomings and bugs definitely spoil the overall experience. This is not a beta product! It has been designed and positioned as a premium product with superlative customer experience. But I donā€™t think it is production ready. And this is unacceptable to me as a user having paid 1.2 lakhs and waiting for almost an year.

Ather has designed an excellent product but are experimenting with real users at their expense! This is not a try at your risk software product that is free. It is supposedly a production ready scooter that is safe to ride and works as designed. If early feedback was desired then Ather could have distributed 50 scooters to interested users and then ironed out all the kinks before releasing it to general public.

I am not a blind supporter of Ather and neither do I want to as it doesnā€™t help Ather and importantnly the end users.I would agree if most of the issues are exceptions. But all of them seem to be happening to the users fairly consistently and regularly.

The product should have been thoroughly tested before releasing to the masses. Clearly this hasnā€™t been done. The focus has been more on building a brand and not on building a tested and reliable product.

I sincerely hope that the continued feedback from early adopters like us will make this a successful product and a brand to reckon with as long as Ather continues to be receptive and responsive. More importantly , Ather should not turn this into another feature frenzy product but focus on getting the basic requirements right and reliable.

May the force be with you @ather_rajs.in

am sure none of us atleast on forum are blind supporters

agree to all your points

i like evā€™s a lotā€¦

that doesnā€™t mean i will buy anything which has battery and motors with a skin of vehicle

am just waiting for a proper ev to arrive in the market for more than 11 years before i bought Ather (after i decided to buy only evā€™s)

wanted to see (not build, as i donā€™t have proper qualification and i know my limitations) a product which has core passion built into itā€¦

Ather is atleast aan option now

i strongly agree there is lot of work on software and enhancing efficiency of motor,

i wouldnā€™t argue on time spent for the above before release, as am not the right person

overall i think it cannot be a bad product at all but just hoping improvements will be rapidā€¦
