I know it has nothing to do with the SoC but Cruise Control itself is executed by the vehicle’s motor controller/ECU, the dashboard must be capable of supporting the software interface and communication protocols required for it.
The Snapdragon 212 is a 2015-era 32-bit chip, and its performance ceiling is very low.
Limited processing speed for real-time vehicle telemetry
Slower communication between dashboard ↔ motor controller
Limited capability for newer Android-based firmware features
So while Ather could technically enable Cruise Control through firmware on older dashboards, it would:
Put heavy strain on the 212 chip.
Possibly cause lag or instability in UI or responsiveness. (which is happening already)
Not meet their performance standards for a smooth rollout.
Why the QCM2290 makes sense for Cruise Control
The QCM2290 is a modern 64-bit automotive IoT processor. it’s specifically made for connected dashboards, telematics, and digital instrument clusters.
High-speed CAN & UART communication with the vehicle ECU (vital for real-time throttle/brake control data).
Better multitasking (running maps + Cruise Control overlay + connectivity without lag).
Future-proofing for OTA software features.
So it’s not that the Snapdragon 212 CAN’T handle Cruise Control. it’s that Ather likely chose not to implement it on those older systems because the experience and reliability wouldn’t meet expectations.
And in this under dashboard the processor mentioned is ‘Snapdragon 212 Quadcore 1.3Ghz’
which means the specsheet is not updated to the 2025 Cruise Control model and this one is still the First Gen 2024 model’s specsheet.
Not really. The dashboard SoC has nothing to do with Cruise Control or any of the vehicle’s core drivetrain features.
I cannot disclose any technical details for obvious reasons, but there really isn’t any hardware differences to gatekeep Infinite Cruise. There is no “older systems”.
Reasons I could think of Ather not rolling out cruise to others is:
Safety, just like Magic Twist, Infinite Cruise has its flaws.
Content for next ACD and Atherstack, just like how they did it for 450x Coasting Regen and Rizta Touchscreen.
Homologation.
Edit: To further prove this, Early Apex 2025 (pre-ACD) with older SoC started getting infinite cruise.
So, the EL Platform vehicles are expected to be available only by January 2027 or maybe even later. The reason I’m saying January 2027 is because the operational delay has been pushed to October, which otherwise would’ve been July. So, if operations actually begin by October, they’ll most likely announce the vehicle during ACD ’26, followed by pre-bookings and deliveries can realistically be expected only by January. Again, this is just my theory, but that’s how it looks to me. It’s disappointing, but it is what it is. They’ll probably roll out some upgrades for the Rizta and the 450 series, like hardware improvements and cruise control for newer models. But beyond that, I don’t see anything new coming anytime soon. Honestly, they’re falling quite far behind.
Where did you find that this module is on the Apex V2? Could you please share that information? Also, what does the product brochure mention about has to do with it? Genuinely asking out of curiosity.
Unless I want to get sued. I can’t share the relevant information. But there’s always hope that you can buy one and open up the display, and you will find this exact S.O.B. chip.
