The ongoing developments surrounding the Ather 450x lineup have sparked widespread criticism, and for good reason. Ather’s claims of innovation and performance are increasingly being overshadowed by the perception of strategic missteps and neglect of loyal customers.

Ather initially marketed the Rizzta with an enticing pitch emphasizing safety, comfort, and performance—a message that resonated with many buyers and drove impressive sales. However, the release of enhanced features for the 450x shortly thereafter has left many early adopters feeling misled. Customers who made recent purchases now face the frustrating reality that, had they waited just a couple of months, they could have accessed improved range, better performance, and additional features.

This apparent disregard for existing customers, particularly those with older generations of the 450x (Gen 3.0 to Gen 4.x), is a glaring issue. Despite the potential of software updates, Ather has failed to address the hardware limitations of these models—most notably the battery. For a company that markets itself as a leader in innovation, the lack of support or upgrade options for loyal customers feels less like progress and more like planned obsolescence.

The Instagram reel hinting at possible improvements for older models added fuel to the fire, raising expectations only to leave many feeling duped when nothing materialized. This reinforces the sentiment that Ather is prioritizing marketing optics over genuine customer satisfaction.

A forward-thinking company would have used this opportunity to reward customer loyalty by either offering meaningful upgrades for older models or introducing a new product lineup with substantial advancements. Instead, Ather’s incremental updates and lack of transparency have created a sense of betrayal, tarnishing the trust of its customer base.

If Ather wants to retain its reputation and maintain its foothold in the EV market, it must rethink its strategy. True innovation lies not only in technological advancement but also in ensuring that customers feel valued and supported—regardless of when they purchased their product.

As it stands, the message from many 450x users is clear: disappointment, frustration, and the lingering thought of “if only I had waited.”

But new colours look really good On my way to get it wrapped in those colours :joy::joy:

What Gen is this? 4.2? 4.2.1? 5.0? I lost track now.

But this time the HW upgrades resulted in price increase as well, even now I guess if people don’t want those features they can get the older Gen from the remaining stock for 5k less.

Also, @saadshaikh747 pointed out in our group that the battery IP rating changed from IP67 to IPX7.
