Hello Ather Team and fellow riders,
The addition of live cricket scores on the dashboard was a fun and thoughtful update - it shows how dynamic and connected our scooters have become.
That said, I would like to politely request a feature that I believe could significantly enhance rider safety and overall experience:
Why This Feature Makes Sense:
As riders who often plan cross-city trips (80–100 km or more), weather plays a huge role in comfort, safety, and energy efficiency. Currently, while planning routes on the Ather app, we get navigation and charging insights — which is excellent — but we don’t get contextual weather intelligence along the route.
Considering that Ather scooters already have:
- Built-in SIM connectivity
- Internet-enabled dashboard
- Powerful display (Ather Stack UI)
- Server-side infrastructure
I feel a weather integration would be a logical and valuable Quality-of-Life update.
App-Side Weather Integration (Trip Planner)
When planning a trip in the Ather app, imagine if:
At City X (ETA 2:45 PM), rain is expected
Midway point shows high temperature alerts
Thunderstorm warnings appear along the route
AQI and humidity data are visible on riding paths
The app could:
- Suggest optional break stoppages during extreme heat
- Advise hydration reminders
- Suggest caution in heavy rain zones
- Even recommend adjusting traction control modes (or prompt the rider to switch settings)
This would make the trip planner not just a navigation tool - but a smart riding companion.
Dashboard-Side Smart Alerts
On the scooter dashboard itself, subtle visual overlays or alerts could enhance safety:
“Rain Expected Ahead” animation overlay on map
Lightning alert with suggestion to seek shelter
High temperature alert advising short breaks
Weather summary (Temp / Humidity / AQI)
Nothing too intrusive - just minimal UI cues integrated into the navigation layer.
Technical Feasibility (From a Rider’s POV)
I understand this is much easier said than done — and I’m sure the developers and UI/UX designers might be shaking their heads reading this ![]()
But from a connected-vehicle standpoint:
- Ather already maintains server-side infrastructure
- Weather APIs are widely available
- Route-wise city-based weather mapping seems possible
- UI overlay updates may not require additional hardware changes
It would likely require:
- Server-side weather database integration
- Route ETA-based weather mapping
- UI updates in Ather Stack
- Smart alert logic
I might be oversimplifying things here, and I completely respect the complexity behind implementation.
Why This Is Becoming Important
With climate change and increasingly unpredictable weather patterns:
- Sudden heavy rains
- Heatwaves
- Thunderstorms
- Air quality fluctuations
Weather-aware riding assistance is becoming more of a safety feature than just a convenience feature.
Possible Smart Use Cases
- Rain Expected Ahead
- Alert rider
- Suggest traction mode
- Recommend cautious riding
- Extreme Heat
- Hydration reminder
- Suggest break stop
- Warn about battery heat management
- Lightning / Thunderstorm
- Alert rider visually
- Suggest shelter
- Highlight affected route zones
- General Weather Data
- Temperature
- Humidity
- AQI
- Wind conditions
Open to Discussion
This is just something I imagined as a connected-feature function request. I may not have expressed everything clearly, but the concept is to make the scooter smarter and safer using data that is already available through connectivity.
Hello dear members, if I’ve missed something, misunderstood technical limitations, or if there are better ways to approach this — please feel free to correct me. I’m new to the forum and would love to hear your thoughts.
Would love to know:
- Do you think this is feasible?
- Would you use this feature?
- Should it be optional or default?
Looking forward to hearing from both the community and the Ather team ![]()
