Charging profile: Grid vs Home

Has anyone seen a charging profile comparison of Ather grid vs home charging? A table or graph that shows the time difference by SoC levels - sample illustration below:

  • SoC……………Grid (minutes)…… Home (minutes)
  • 00% to 10%…………5………………… 38
  • 10% to 20%…………6…………………40
  • 20% to 30%…………7…………………42
  • 90% to 100%……….15…………………60

Would appreciate if anyone can point to the forum link if this is available.

My Ather dosent actually slow down after 90%. It charger at a constant speed. Is it normal @abhishek.balaji ?

Even my Ather charges from 0-100 or close to that in four hours. I earlier thought something’s wrong because the specified charging time is 5 hours or so. But after consultation with the staff at Indore EC, they said that their vehicles also get charged within 4 hours.

Yes!! 4 hours

What i observed is in the mid range from 20% to 80% it charges 25% for 1 hour so 50% for 2 hours, 100% for ~4 hours. One more thing is it takes 10mins to go from 100% to Charging completed 100% i.e, dot charger’s fan turning off.

I think this is the maximum time, it mainly depends on the temperature. If i ride my Ather aggressively in the hot sun and immediately if i charge it after the ride in direct sunlight, it takes more time to charge than usual.

Backing with experiment. This was an overnight charging. Daytime charging might be a different number.

Hit 0%. Scooter is still running. Rode 200 m or so before taking this pic

Got around 500 m more after hitting 0%. Time is 11:10 PM. Took 5 minutes to put the scooter to charge.

25% charge exactly at 12:15, one hour later

Overshot a bit on taking this. Time is now 1:30 AM and charge is 58%

Charged to 75% in 3 hours

98% charge in 4 hours

4 hours 15 minutes, and I get charge complete notification

With some data on grid charging - added city and highway grid columns - seems all grids don’t charge at same rate. @acorreya - thanks for home charging data. Added data for highway grid - used a grid on highway (Chouk - rural area but 2.0 grid), and found that highway grid was slightly slower than city grids - first called out by @viral_champ. Chouk grid charged approx 1% every minute till 80% when it slowed more. My experience of city grids (validated at Emerald Resort - 1.0 grid at Talegaon) is they charge about 1.5% per minute. Is this difference a configuration thing or voltage thing - not sure.

SoC City Grid(min) Rural Grid(min) Home(min)
00% to 10% 7 10 24
10% to 20% 7 10 24
20% to 30% 7 10 24
30% to 40% 7 10 24
40% to 50% 7 10 24
50% to 60% 7 10 24
60% to 70% 7 10 24
70% to 80% ? 15 ?
80% to 90% ? 30 ?
90% to 100% ? ? ?

100% in 4 hours or to be precise lets take it in the range of 20-80%, it would exactly charge 25% for 1 hour in this range

Generally time will decrease or % charged in 1 hour will increase but it wont change drastically. How far it can charge for 1 hour 27%, 28%, ok lets take it 30%. That’s what i had thought or which i saw. 2-3 months back my scooter was charging around 27-28% in 1 hour and i thought that’s not a problem, it was tend to happen but nowadays I’m observing the % charged in 1 hour, is something which is making me think IS EVERYTHING OK

Time is 2:50 and charge is exactly at 25%

Now for 1 hour it should charge 25%, since my scooter is 4.5 years old and the ODO is at 45k, it will charge more in an hour, as i observed 2-3 months back, 27-28% i.e, the charge should be around 52, 53, lets take it as 55% charge in 1 hour

At 3:50 charge is at 68%. 13% more than what i had thought. I mean how can this sudden spike happen. When the ODO was at 42-43k it was charging 27-28% for 1 hour but now at 45k its charging 43% for 1 hour.

Battery degradation, 4.5 years of ownership, the ODO, I’m not worried about all this, its about the spike the drastic increase of % charged in an hour in 3-4k kms

How is the range? Is it the same as before?

Yes! I forgot to mention

Even the range is dropped

Before in 80% charge i was going from POINT A to POINT B and to POINT C and again back to POINT A and i would have around 38-42% charge but now for the same rides i would end up with 20-25% charge.

So yeah overall its battery degradation but suddenly? In a short span of time? Instead it should happen gradually like it happened from 0 to 42-43k.

And i know there’s no use, putting it in the forum, I’ll inform the SC on my next service and they would say YES SIR WE WILL CHECK and after service if i ask or if the service guy has really some concern or really willing to help he’ll tell me about it before i ask but that beautiful moment will only happen in dreams. Whatever if i ask they’ll only have 2 answers either they would have forgot to check and they’ll ask some more time for it for which i won’t agree or they would say YES SIR WE CHECKED ITS NORMAL, NO ISSUE BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Like always I’ll just live with it.
