Chethak doesn’t get a subsidy as they haven’t applied for it as a big company like them want to be independent and don’t want to be a burden to the govt is the reason I hear about it some say they have tussles with the govt too not sure what’s the reason but it is including subsidy,with subsidy it should be around 1.05 lac will be really really good and will appeal to the masses
On their website too, there is no mention of FAME II. I think they don’t fit in the criteria of 70% localization.

I am not sure, why Bajaj not forthcoming about the Chetak subsidy issue. Every EV 2 wheeler that’s meeting minimum specification requirements getting the subsidy amount.
Can you pinpoint or share the screenshot where they have mentioned FAME II on their website?

I don’t understand Bajaj. They loudly proclaimed “We have no interest in the scooter market” and when they saw Ather, Revolt launching and TVS announcing the iQube - they did an about turn and said we’ll just convert the old Chetak into an EV and sell it.
They have put in significant effort into the Chetak because it is an aesthetic and well built vehicle. Why they don’t want to capitalise on this platform is bewildering.
Was this someone’s pet project and now they lost interest?

It’s a really good scooter, everything about is so nice metal body,great aesthetics,style elements and the start and stop system is even finer, the display is no nonsense and good,the pricing is the only bummer,with fame-2 and a free home unit this scooter will sell like hotcakes At around 1.05 to 1.1lac onroad
And there’s so much nostalgia in it! Writing this on father’s day reminds me of my dad’s old chetak. I think my first memories are on that scooter. I mean it probably isn’t just me. They fix a few things and market it right, it’ll sell like crazy!

Even with current version, the product has enough interest.
Bajaj can even afford to burn cash to get market share. But, they seem to have lost interest even in selling it, as there is no traction at all.

As per a July 2020 report, their battery cells are imported directly from Wuhan,China. There are rumors that few other components are imported from China as well. I think they have failed on the 70% localization clause.

It just doesn’t make sense at all to reject FAME II, unless they are not eligible for it. Still I’ll try to get the confirm answer on this.
But I know this for sure that it’s complete electric power train is design & developed by Dhoot Transmission, Aurangabad. One of my contact was lead on this project.

Its only the ownership cost issues. otherwise, they have existing established dealer network.
Why is chetak not under fame 2 scheme??
