For each and everything, Ather charging us. Need to improve all
Because zero Vodafone network in my area, almost no smart feature usable since months.
Hope this time, it is installed quickly (sorry if it takes little more time, correctly) to everyone and 4G issue gets resolved.
Got a call yesterday and it’s scheduled for tomorrow. That was quicker than expected. I believe geo-cluster wise rollout is helping.
Got call on Monday for scheduling the 4G upgrade for Wednesday. Technician came today and performed the change in module. Roughly took 10-15 mins. Dashboard shows 4G now but maps didn’t load in time. Thought of giving it a day and retrying. Will be testing tomorrow if there’s any improvement. Costed 2950 inclusive of tax.
Same happened with me. I did not want to post possibly one-off case to avoid panic with others. Below is my experience.
Monday morning, technician came on time. Very polite and nice guy. He took 45 minutes to install.
It took more time because the first dongle had some niggle in the rubber coupler, so he had to replace it with a new dongle. Then, dashboard display had loose connection and it took some time to fix it.
After OTA and dongle installation, full network came with 4G symbol. But, navigation & Internet never came even after multiple tries. Doubting on the signal strength, technician went out for a 2 km ride. It did not help. He asked me to check couple of times later in the day and report to CC if it did not work. Tried 2-3 times until evening. But, it did not work.
Called CC to report it. After couple of callbacks, I was offered to pickup and fix it in service center. Initial pickup slot was at least 1 week away. After some requests, was given a slot for Thursday to pickup.
Today, I got a callback again to check the connectivity. Checked it today again. Surprisingly, navigation worked (I tried 6 times and twice got “No internet”). But signal strength was full throughout.
Not sure what made it to work after 2 days.
Update: Navigation continues to work. During startup, 4G signal comes < 30 seconds. So, vehicle pickup cancelled and was observed to monitor for few more days.
After a quick spin today, all is back to normal and maps load as before. Initially the map showed scooter location to be in some other location based on my previous ride. Took 5-6 minutes for the maps to update the location based on original location.
Used maps while returning back from errands and didn’t notice any difference as such. Took some detours intentionally. Felt like rerouting was a tad bit quicker from the time it says “rerouting” in dashboard compared to 3G module. Apart from that couldn’t notice any difference. I barely had any lag in 3G module. I’ve not faced any issue with dashboard lagging while using maps till now.
More of a necessity to upgrade as 3G will eventually phase out.
After a near year long wait for the upgrade to happen, the day finally arrived. Upgrade was scheduled for today and the technician came for installation at about 11:45am. I was away at office and I had left necessary instructions with my wife to interact with the technician. I reached home at about 6.30pm. I eagerly switched on the scooter to see “4G” displayed on the screen but was greeted by ZERO signal strength. I reset the dashboard but status remained the same. I checked with my wife whether she saw the 4G signal on the screen after installation and she she replied in positive. As it was drizzling I could not take the scooter for a ride for an attempt to catch up with the signal. As I observed on the screen the scooter had last synched 5 hours ago……that means the last sync was at about 1:30pm. If I am right, the service provider for 4G in the upgrade module is Jio. I checked for signal strength on my phone with Jio SIM. I found the signal to be present in the phone. Has anyone of us faced this situation after upgrade and what’s the solution? Thanks.
In continuation to the above post, I am adding the following update. I am forced to post a separate message since I find the earlier post to be locked and hence unable to edit. I dont know the reason for locking the post. Anyway posting my update as below.
I took my 450 for a ride today morning to try to hook on to the network. There was no trace of signal for the entire distance of 3.2km that lasted 10 minutes.
Thanks.
I think connectivity to my 450 too got cut off after nearly 2 hours of installation on 30th October. I have reported this to CC and they would be picking up the scooter on 4th November and take it to IBC. Hopefully the issue is sorted out. As i read the post of yours, I wonder if there is a probability that network connectivity to newly installed devices is being lost around the same time after installation. I see some common issue in this. With this background I am not sure if I should send the scooter now for rectification-I don’t want my scooter to be taken to SC repeatedly. May be it makes sense to wait until things stabilise. After all I prefer on-site servicing/rectification to be carried out. Keeping fingers crossed.
It’s FINALLY DONE! Second attempt though. Hope it remains connected unlike the first dongle that failed within 2 hours of installation forcing me to send my 450 to SC at IBC. Thanks Ather.
However pack of Ather OATS wasn’t delivered.Guess Ather has the confidence that the scooter will remain connected without this……OATS is for BET after all.
Congrats! Well, mine isn’t working even after the second attempt, I had to call the CC again and complain about this issue. I hope it works the third time around.
This leaves me a bit worried now.
Another pick-up to the SC scheduled, This is the 3rd try, wasn’t something to be happy about. I hope The team fixes it this time atleast.
A sincere request to Ather: These days, a service pickup takes minimum 1 week to 10 days. Reason quoted every time: No rider available.
If it is occasional because of lockdown, this is acceptable. Based on what I have seen in last 2 months, this is a norm.
Alternative being provided: We can drop the vehicle at service center.
If your service backbone is pickup & drop, then you need to scale it with more riders. That being outsourced one, I don’t think it is a difficult task. A pickup should be available as early as 1-2 days.
Great design ? Yes? Anyone/anything great apart from the inventors/entrepreneurs? Not In my opinion.
I am so disappointed in Ather service and the marketing employees. Here’s my short Ather buying-to-one-year experience which I will surely blog about.

While purchase, Ather showroom in Indiranagar. . we enquired about the electricity-pay back plan. Whatever the employee suggested we bought and later got to know we were tricked. Short story? Never received a single rupee from them.

When they came to install the dot, the employee tried to literally rip me by asking 8000 Rs extra for 10-15m barely. Now I might be a woman but not stupid. I know the price of the cables. It’s Rs50/metre that is what 500 bucks? I was outraged. I said, install your dot and leave please. I called urbanclap and got the whole thing done for 1500 bucks including the wiring. I also had to pay 1800 to install the dot. But no way am paying 8k for wiring!!! I did tip the UC guy for his courtesy. He deserved it. Your employee deserved an earful.

I received this bike in March 2020, 3 weeks before lockdown. So my first service is going now. Here’s the thing, these guys are asking me 2500 Rs to change 2G to 4G!!! 4G came to India like a decade ago. 4G kya, the time it was manufactured probably 5G was available also. So what was your game plan to put like outdated network on the bike? Do you think we don’t understand your Market schemes of how to keep getting money from customers? Isn’t that against the point of clean energy? Why should I pay 2500 for sim swap when you’re using 2G sim in 2020 year? And yes we knew what you were putting(2G) but not like you gave an option to start with You forced customer to buy 2G in 2020 now asking a lot of money for a damn outdated tech swap that should have been provided free by you with some courtesy… Just came to forum to say this because it’s useless otherwise. If you love claiming about your high tech…Do proudly say that your bike comes with a damn 2G that doesn’t load often 200-300 m into the ride. WAnd there is no navigation director/pointer . Why?? And every time someone asks me about the bike, I say yeah it’s nice. But with some basic problems for which you only have to pay even though it’s not your fault that the manufacturer didn’t use latest available tech after charging a bomb of 1lakh 28 k for it. So Wait for better. In a just a few years electric bike would be everywhere anyway. Please be honest and do put it in big words in your showroom that Along with your great technology, your year 2020s bikes comes with a 2G sim that was in my nokia3300.
The Ather One 360 plan was available only till Dec 2020. It is paid once in a calendar Quarter. If you had that plan active till then you should’ve got the home charging reimbursement in April 2020, July 2020, October 2020, Jan 2021. Please check your bank statement once. Since it was the lockdown time, I assume your usage would’ve been less and the reimbursement also would be a small amount. for such small amounts we usually don’t get SMS from the Bank too. It should be a UPI transaction. If you still have nothing, please check once if you have updated your bank account details in you “My Account” section of your Ather account (not the Forum).
Ever since the Dot was introduced, Installation is not free. The charges for cables are expensive no doubt but there is no obligation to get it done by Ather only. Were the charges not explained to you earlier? If not then it is not good.
The sim on a phone is different than that on a scooter. it was a 2G esim. the 4G is a Dongle. I agree with you that 4G should’ve been provided earlier but the ₹2500 is not for a small sim but for the additional dongle. I know you’re dissatisfied with the connectivity issues…so am I. But I don’t think anyone would opt for 2G only to extract money from the first few people when 4G would be a norm for newer customers? It’s too small an income for too much of an effort don’t you think?
Adding to this, 450 was planned for 2019 if I’m not wrong. But The product development stage may have started way earlier. Then the company may not have explored the option or may haven’t found it feasible to do this. Sure they should have adopted the latest technology but many factors contribute to this. Atleast they’re trying to get this right while any other company may have pulled the plug after the launch of the newer product. I hope, and I really do that Ather gets its software experience right.
@abhishek.balaji Very poor Vodafone signal. Why don’t you think Airtel. No point in keeping the Subscription of map. Sometimes ok
