Setting up Your Home Charging Point

In general, for the next couple of months, installation will be after full payment has been received, typically in the week of delivery of your vehicle.

What about charging point installations for those who live in apartments?
Will your Technician take care of the wiring and other related issues?

How many days before the delivery of the vehicle is the home charging point usually set up? And I am guessing it happens only after payment process is complete?

Yes they do survey, Feasibility and then install… But u have to get prior permission from association, if association say ok. Then your part done, then ather technician will take care to install

What does Ather Do during Home Charging Point Assessment
posting this for the benefit of all upcoming assessment

Checkpoints are :

  • Electricity meter and parking slot
  • All electrical parameters for a seamless installation
  • If there’s a need for additional work, over and above the standard installation parameters.

What does one do after assessment :

While Ather manage all the installation related processes for you, you just need to get the necessary permissions from your housing society, and that’s if you live in an apartment.

Here are the FAQ and the Govt. of Karnataka’s EV policy, some easy-to-understand information that you might want to read up on or share it with your association’s rep to get the permissions.

List of things included in free installation:

  • Assessment and installation of the charging Point by Ather’s trained technicians
  • Cabling and conduiting up to 20 meters at no extra cost
  • Testing & commissioning of the charging Point
  • Any non-standard installation cost incurred needs to be paid by you. Of course, Ather will start the installation work only after your approval

Hello folks!

A question to tenants in apartments that have gotten the installation done already – if any.

Was there a need to get any permission from Bescom to draw the direct line from your meter but from the common meter room that apartments generally have? Did the apartment association insist that they cannot allow without permission from Bescom for this - possibly because it could later be an issue with bescom otherwise…?

No such requirement from my apartment complex association. Line drawn from apartment’s meter box.

Did they give you an option to opt for the mobile charging unit instead of the home charging point? I remember some discussions with them on this front in August 2018 when I booked it and they were saying that the home charging point cannot be swapped out for the portable unit and even the early birds need to buy it separately. It was either this or a socket. I am not sure if they changed this (not so logical) decision later.

Also, I would like to know your (and hopefully others can comment on this too) rationale behind going for this instead of the portable unit since I am having a hard time making up my mind. My heart says go for this but my head says go for the portable unit (after setting up the socket inside a lockable distribution box).

Listing out a few pros and cons which I can think of:
Fixed home charging point:
Pros: Looks, faster charging rate, better protection from electrical spikes and other disturbances (as per the folks at Ather), weather sealed, ease of plugging in/removing
Cons: Not portable, the looks and the green light can attract unwanted attention, many would still prefer to buy the additional portable unit anyway

Socket + portable unit (inside lockable distribution box):
Pros: Portable :), can be locked away inside the DB to stop people from messing it up, the socket can be used for other purposes (for e.g. vacuum cleaning of your car)
Cons: Slower charging, less electrical protection, not weather proof, need extra protection for it not to be stolen

Now the charging rate can either be a pro or a con. I personally prefer a slower charger which can be plugged in overnight. From what I have understood, the battery does heat up enough for the fan to kick in occasionally when charged from the stationary charger and heat being a battery killer, I would prefer a slower charging rate.
