I'm a survivor - a lost 450 cause.

To start this topic, this will be a weekly or bi-weekly update on fixing a completely flooded Gen1.5 450. This happened during the December 2023 Chennai floods.

To start this scooter was able to drive to the Nungambakkam ASC, but it was completely neglected for the next 60 days and sat there with water damage. now electronics don’t like any like of mineral deposits on their boards.

Current stats Mechanically the scooter is in good condition.

But the boards are not.

12v converter

motor connectors damaged

Display fully damaged

Disassembly still in progress. will update the rest by this Sunday. hope we will would be able to save this 450.

Nice thread… just one curious question. As you said, this happened in Dec’23 floods and you started the repair now , after like 8 months. Why so ?

It’s not mine, I forgot to mention it’s my Chennai OG Group member’s. It was with the service centre till May I think. Since he didn’t have insurance at the time of the incident he was not that much of in a mood to repair it.

The service estimate was around 1.20L, the scooter’s original cost. So he brought it back home and let it live there.

He has previously tried to charge the battery but that was impossible since the scooter had a burned converter. So I towed it this August thinking of at least reviving the BMS to let the scooter charge.

I’m Thinking of reviving at least the Motor, Motor controller, and Display motherboard. LCD can’t be revived as water has swept inside the layers of it.

couldn’t wait for disassembly so here is the next part. well, I cleaned the Motor contacts and it looks like it has survived.

Even BMS looks like it made it without any water damage, even though I did find some mineral deposits on the interface connector and nothing else

the motor contactor did not make it.

BMS

The total pack is showing 8.6v while the load section is showing 4.6v it’s very odd. I need to figure out how to wake this thing up as it’s not accepting any charge from any charger even my aftermarket charger.

i suggest you do a clean with 100% isopropyl before jumpstarting it, i heard from someone that theres a physical reset button for the BMS somewhere dont know if its true

In the All India WA group?, it was me. it is there but will not do anything. The physical need of having a Button in the BMS questions everything. Since the old method was good with shorting the Load(-) with battery pack (-). Ather just overcomplicates everything.

anyways props to Ather for sealing the battery that well.

Do u think the battery is in dead state ? It could happen as due to the minerals it kept on sucking on power till it just physical broke or the battery was completed sucked dry

Battery is dead, but dead batteries can be revived. It’s dead because it directly feeds the 12v converter and there was a huge burn in the pcb, it was so hugh that the board broke into 2 pc. Ather Nungambakkam escaped from becoming a news topic.

retrofit Zero 63HP motor LOL. $900 USD on ebay rn.

I’m tempted to do so many things, Zero’s motor is far far away to even fix on this tiny motor chassis.

so, Sunday went a little bit too much work with this scooter

Work done, Opened the motor completely and replaced the Bearings. if wondering there are 2, 6205 sizes and 6003. with an oil seal 20x40x7mm

Sorry forgot to take pictures. I was not thinking of fixing this. The motor has not yet been tested as I still doubt fixing it’s controller.

The rest of the scooter is completely disassembled and kept aside and will upload the pic later in the evening.
