Hero eMaestro

The prototype of Hero Maestro electric has been revealed. It is Hero MotoCorp’s first electric scooter and expected to be launched in 2021.

Since Hero MotoCorp owns a large stake in Ather Energy is there a possibility that the company would use the Ather 450X’s powertrain in the Maestro electric?

Interesting thought! Hero claims that it is being developed inhouse in their R&D center in Jaipur and is based on the Maestro Edge platform, but the battery and PM motor seem very close to Ather 450, except the fact that there is no DC fast charging:

But interestingly, they are saying they are “developing the technology over the next five to seven years, and we could expect to see the eMaestro arrive in its production guise in the early half of this decade”. So I guess they are actually developing it from scratch?

If hero actually uses Ather’s drivetrain and arrives with sub-par features say 70kms of range with maximum speed of 65km/hr, no DC charging, little to no smart features but priced at 1-1.1Lakh mark. Which one would you choose?
