Cruise control. The ather way.

Guys. Let’s discuss how can cruise control be given to almost every scooter and how can it be used to get better range. Like setting the speed to 40kph so scooter uses bare minimum power to maintain 40kph and automatically uses regen to slow down so that we get much better range.

Plus if Tarun is worried about brake switch sensor failure than just turn the cruise control off when any sort of throttle input is given and respond to throttle.

And of scooters gen 3.1 and below they can give a shortcut of power button like press 2 times or something. I still don’t understand why they are not offering cruise control.

Imo Cruise Control are Unnecessary Feature. Last Week I did 950 KMs in 2 Days 6 Hrs But I don’t feel like needed a Cruise Control. As because I don’t feel like needing it doesn’t mean others to think that way. But Imo That’s One Hazardous feature to be on a Two Wheeler.

Cruise Control is an unnecessary feature unless one is riding on the highway or at some something like 3.00 AM as the number of riders is quite low which makes the feature unnessasry. Also there is a significant risk invovlved if such cruise control feature is given as the attention level will get reduced and the company’s reputation will get affected.

Even Numbers are low in Traffic, If They rider is riding from Noon or Morning still then It’s Hazardous Buddy

Note : I have done 70+ 3 AM Rides on my Athers

Agreed. It’s a must require feature. Every other ev is offering. It’s a simple programming but I am sure they are keeping it for future so that they can ask for more money in subscription plans.

Cruise control is useful on highway

A more useful feature would be a crawl mode for traffic and low battery situations.

Cruise Control feature is not only unnecessary,

CRUISE CONTROL IS UNSAFE UNSAFE UNSAFE. :100:

Such features can definitely go against the industry standards.( I am not sure. But think so. An expert may shed light on this )

But we know there are 2W models with such features are running in Indian roads. Why ARAI shut their eyes on those models? If so, for the interest of public safety as well as for the interest of own business, Ather Energy may blow the whistle on this regard.

Cruise control is completely safe to use on highway, when you are going long CC can do wonders to improve range and lower the stress on rider of maintaining throttle input

Cause theres nothing to be worried about, models that have this feature have throttle cut on applying brake regardless

Are the Indians have Safe Mentality to use such feature on 2Ws?? No Dude

Our People need more Civic Sense. Definitely CC will make Big Impact, Btw I am not Ready to Compare it with Ola Because It runs barely 4-5 KMs then Break Down

Some of rider must require cruise control feature and some of not those people how can decide is unsafe and unusual, lets implement this feature in the scooter for best and Hassle-free ride experience. Keep decisions pending for all user and Ather team.

Rather than discussing whether cruise control is ❛ Safe or Unsafe ❜, I am more interested in discussing and know more about its legal aspects. Because majority believes either it is safe or they prefer their own convenience over public safety. 100+ votes in another same feature request topic is an evident for it. As I strongly believe it is Unsafe, All those have the same right to believe it is Safe. But if it is illegal, No one can have a different opinion.

Is Cruise Control Legal or Illegal ?

Usually such unsafe features cannot be illegal. Aisa ho hi nhi sakta! Standards does not allow such features in general. This is my belief. We have to verify the facts.

Now let’s discuss on standards and statutes regarding this feature.

Ref 1: IS 14283:1995 AUTOMOTIVE VEHICLES-ACCELERATOR CONTROLSYSTEMS-SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

3.1 There shall be a source of energy capable of returning the throttle to the low idle position within the time limit as indicated in 3.3 from any accelerator position whenever the driver removes the opposing actuating force.

Here the aforementioned clause 3.1 of IS 14283: 1995 is clearly against the cruise control in ICE vehicles.

Pease note this standard is outdated - came in 1995. If this standard stand still now and AIS adopted this standard or any CMVR mandates these standards., then Cruise Control is Illegal, unarguably and unequivocally. Usually ARAI adopts existing BIS standards and CMVR mandates BIS.

An expert can shed more light on this subject. Design team are well versed with these standards, statutes and its clauses.

EVs can be escaped from this standard as an EV has no throttle.

Having all features in scooters is good only its on rider to decide whether he wants to use any feature or no. In simple one scooter and ther 450 scooter we have speed is more than 90km . But its on rider to descide on which speed he wants to drive . So my vote is favour of cruise control feature we required in Ather all models .
