We will be phasing out the production of the 450 to make way for the 450X. Exact timelines are yet being worked out based on demand & production plans.

For the consumers, however, the 450X Plus performance pack, has similar specs.

BMS won’t get any update in terms of features.

Ather 450 will continue to get OTA updates with some new features and fixes for the next few years. We have a range of updates coming for the 450 over the new few months:

  1. Dark Mode
  2. Smart Charging reminders (if your vehicle is low on battery)
  3. Smart Navigation reminders
  4. Better Keyboard on navigation (on dashboard)
  5. Overhauling the app (some of the above features will be through the app)

There is no plan of launching 450 in the grey colour. This will be available in 450X only

Is there any new subscription plan that you are going to bring which is less than either the pro/plus plan? Or any plan of revising the current pro/plus subscriptions to a lower cost?

What is Ather’s take on planned obsolesence. Will the performance of 450 be degraded by OTA in the future?

This is in reference to something Apple has done very recently with their older iPhone models, where battery degradation was cited as the reason to degrade the performance of the phone deliberately.

He is referring to current BMS failing under frequent shut down when the battery is higher then 60%

So the shutdown issue cannot be sorted out?(issue–shutting down the 450 at a high charge at night makes the vehicle show 0 charge in the morning and one needs to force restart to sort it out )

Regarding the BMS issue when the scooter is shut down with more than 60% SOC. Has this issue been solved with the newer 21700 battery packs?

Ather One (as they exist currently for the 450) covers data connecivity, vehicle servicing & charging related features.

However, the performance pack subscription (pro/plus packs for the 450x) works as following Pay 99K and pick a Pro/Plus performance pack for 1699/1999 / mo:
This means you own the scooter without the battery and pay for the battery as a subscription, unlimited warranty, data services, over-the air updates, unlimited fast charging at Ather Grid. If your battery degrades to anything less than 80% of its original capacity, we’ll replace with a new one. This works like your regular warranty, but for the entire lifetime of the scooter. This plan would be ideal if you want your scooter to provide a consistently high performance throughout its life, without you ever worrying about degradation.

So it’d be unfair to compare the Atherone subscriptions for 450 & performance subscriptions for 450x and speculate on the pricing based on the price on one or the other.

Hey Balaaje, Actually you have this question because there are some important points that we could not clarify at the launch. The actual price of the Ather 450 would be much much higher if we were to even break-even on the cost at which we produce it. We have been selling it at that price point because we wanted to create a market for EVs. And we can assure you that no one can make a scooter that has the specs of the Ather 450 at a cost that will justify its old price of 1.2 Lacs (On Road Chennai). If you observe, recently launched EV Scooters from the likes of Bajaj & TVS have far lower specs but the same price as that of the existing Ather 450. And even on that they are making losses!

Hence, the price of 450 had to go up for it to become sustainable for us. And more importantly, for the market to be anchored properly. Basically, if we kept selling one of the best scooters in the country (perhaps in the world) at such a low price, how will others price their lower-spec but decent EV scooters any higher?

Even 450X has been priced just about at the point where we will barely break - that too if we sell A LOOOTTTTT of vehicles next year. And, the 450X Plus (which is nothing but the 450 with 4G and a better battery) priced at Rs. 1.49 L in itself is our attempt to keep the 450 alive.

I have done the pre order before 28th

We are trying to build in our dealer network to more cities. But currently, it looks difficult for us to be available in more cities in this year. We will be coming to the next tier cities next year

Will you introduce a subscription plan that takes care of all the things that the ather one plan currently supports + pro/plus subscription?

If we introduce a new model in the future, we might work out an exchange / upgrade plan depending on demand for the new model among existing customers. However, we will not replace your vehicle free of cost under this circumstance. :slight_smile:

We have a solution for it already. And we are fixing it for any vehicle that is facing the issue.
